HEART OF A
HERO WINS AT FEI DRESSAGE SHOW
Heart of a Hero, won his first dressage
class, the Adults Alternate, at
the recently held FEI World Dressage Challenge Show, which
was held on April 11, at St Ann Polo Club and Equestrian Center,
ridden by Hooves Co-Owner and Director, Mrs Tina Williams.
Hero was pulled out of a drainage ditch by a front end loader,
back in 1998. He had
been through the claiming system at the Jamaican racetrack, when his
owner decided to pass him on to his groom, when he stopped placing. The groom had nowhere to keep him, so turned him out on
barren wasteland outside of the racetrack compound.
In his search for food, he found himself in a four foot deep
drainage ditch, and was there for several days, wandering up and
down, until a concerned resident called the JSPCA to come and rescue
him.
"When he first came to us, we thought that he would just be a
pasture pet, it was six weeks before we saw him take any trot
strides, and four months before he cantered out into the pasture
with the others. His
case actually came up before the Jamaica Racing Commission and his
previous owner was banned from owning any more racehorses. I would
really like to thank the JSPCA for bringing this wonderful horse
into my life. He is a survivor, he tries so hard and has tremendous
talent. I would like to ride the FEI Advanced test on him next year,
and then work towards Prix St Georges, he certainly has the talent
to do it, not so sure about me!!"
