The Bush Doctor culture is steeped in history, the first Bush Doctors,
were slaves, whose job was to maintain the health of the other slave
workers on the plantations.
Using the many available plants and extracting
their medicinal properties, the cures for a multitude of ailments, passed
on down through the generations. Even today, in many rural parts of
Jamaica, a General Practitioner is not sought but the Bush Doctor is.
This tour gives an insight into rural
Jamaica, the work of the Bush Doctor and touches on many folklore remedies
and stories, whilst enjoying spectacular views across mountain ranges and
coastal plains. On a clear day, the highest mountain in Jamaica can be
seen, over 56 miles away, rising majestically in the East, while twenty
miles of coastline lie at our feet.
